Parents eagerly await laboratory test results
75 pupils from Sindzawonye Primary School were allegedly poisoned after eating ice lollies.

MSOGWABA –It has been almost a month since about 75 pupils from Sindzawonye Primary School were allegedly poisoned after eating ice lollies.
However, the results from the laboratory tests conducted at Rob Ferreira Hospital have not yet been received.
According to one of the parents, Ms Witness Msimango, they had been informed by the hospital that the results would be delivered to the school’s principal, who would in turn organise a meeting with the parents to address the issue.
However, none of this has taken place and schools have already closed for the December holidays.

“We feel there has been some hesitation to act quickly on the matter. Our children are in danger of being exposed to such food again. We should at least be able to get the results to determine the cause of the poisoning, so that rightful action can be taken against the perpetrators. That’s all we want,” explained Msimango.

Some of the parents are threatening to barricade Sindzawonye Primary’s gates with burning tyres when schools reopen in 2017.
“It’s simple, if we don’t get what we want as parents, there will be no teaching and learning at the school until the MEC for education and the health department speed up the process and release the test results,” said Mr Isaiah Nyoni.
Spokesperson for education, Mr Jasper Zwane said, “We haven’t received the results, but we are engaging with the Department of Health to find out how far they are in terms of releasing them. I believe we will get positive feedback soon.”
