Teaching and learning disturbed in schools of the province

On Monday learners from public schools around Pienaar and Kanyamazane were seen on the streets walking back home in the early hours of the morning.

School going children from some schools in the province are compelled to be on the streets as early as 10:00, following the workers demand in the department of education.

This follows teachers union’s outcry on workers’ demands including the issues of moratorium in the province which causes education’s employees to be overworked.

Nehawu representative, Mr Sidumo Masilela says the workers’ demands were initially around the issues of operational budget.

This now includes other outstanding matters, like the abolishment of salary levels one to three and the upgrading of salary levels nine to 10 and levels 11 to 12.

Mr Jasper Zwane, spokesperson for education says the department is concerned to learn that there are disruptions of teaching and learning in some areas of the province.

We have brought this to the attention of the leaders who assured the department to look into the matter and to correct it,” he said.
