#SafeTaxisNow: Women demand safe public transport

When accessing taxis, women are exposed to gender-based violence in the form of sexual harassment, sexual assault, and rape. We are calling on the South African public to contribute to a national #SafeTaxisNow charter for women.

#SafeTaxisNow trended last night following a wave of kidnapped women and children who are murdered and violated in taxis.

The Soul City Institute for Social Justice will head to Booysens Police Station to demand taxi rape report. The organisation says it wants justice for all victims of abuse, harassment and rape who have been mistreated by police.“We demand legal action from the Independent Police Investigative Directorate to investigate the police who have mistreated women who have serious cases,” says the organisation.
