Investigation proves police were falsely accused

The suspect mistaken them for the police and he opened fire which led to the gruesome injuries inflicted on her

Mpumalanga SAPS says an investigation has proved that a 26-year-old woman from Bushbuckridge has falsely accused the police for the loss of her leg and arm.

This follows her allegation that police went to her home 14-years-ago searching for a 40-year-old man who was suspected to be involved in an armed robbery on November 26, 2004.

“On their arrival on the day in question, the suspect started firing shots at the police. The woman and her brother jumped out of the house through a window.

A police officer was also injured on his leg during the shoot-out,” said provincial SAPS spokesperson‚ Brigadier Leonard Hlathi.
The woman accused the police for the loss of her arm and leg.

“Upon investigation, it came forth that her allegations against the police were false. The police registered cases of attempted murder and an inquest. The victim’s mother, who was in a relationship with the suspect, did not wish to open a case,” said Hlathi.

The SABC television aired the story and during the interview the victim accused the police for shooting her.

“The police in Mpumalanga are disturbed by the blatant disregard of the facts on the part of the media house as presented to them during an interview.

The family is more than welcome to raise their dissatisfaction on the matter with the Independent Police Investigative Directorate,” said Hlathi.
