Barberton police are investigating the murder of an informal tavern owner.
Mr Sipho Zitha of Extension 11 was killed by unknown men who entered his home on Saturday midnight.
It is alleged that the suspects who pretended to be patrons, knocked at the house where Zitha and his family were sleeping.
“A fight between the deceased and the unknown men broke out. His wife who was in the house, hid under a bed. It was after Zitha opened the burglar door that a fight ensued between him and the men. He was hit with a blunt object on his head and fell on the floor” said Ndubane.
The men proceeded to steal six cases of liquor and an undisclosed amount of cash from the house before leaving.
A murder case has been opened.
