BREAKING NEWS: Protests erupt after illegal structures demolished

Protests erupted this morning on the  near Karino near Tekwane South and on the N4.

MBOMBELA – According to police Col Mtsholi Bhembe, the municipality is currently demolishing illegal structures in the area.  “We have since opened the road.”

He said the traffic was flowing again and their police officers were still at the scene monitoring the situation. “They  blockaded the road with tyres and branches, so far no injuries or damages have been reported.”

City of Mbombela spokesman Joseph Ngala said the situation was due to people building illegal land structures in the area last year.


“We took the matter to court, and followed the due process and notified the persons involved. We were finally granted an order to demolish.”

Ngala made an appeal  to the communities not to invade land illegally as it would lead to the structures been demolished.
