Safety MEC calls on road users to obey rules

This is after three trucks collided on the N12 this morning causing ammonia spillage.

MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Gabisile Shabalala encouraged motorists to prioritise road safety ensuring that they get sufficient rest.

She said this at the accident scene that involved three trucks and a sedan this morning near eMalahleni.  “Truck drivers and all those involved in the trucking business must play their part towards road safety by among others, ensuring drivers rest sufficiently along the way,” said Shabalala.

She encouraged road users to obey the rules and also plan their journeys well in advance as part of dealing with fatigue.
Meanwhile, the Executive Mayor for, Lina Malatji arranged transport for residents who were stranded when the incident occurred.
