Ipid to investigate alleged assault at Masoyi police station
A community member wanted the local SAPS to be investigated and prosecuted for the injuries he had allegedly suffered in the holding cells on January 30, 2010, after he had been accused of rape.
The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) is investigating the local police in connection with the assault case that allegedly occurred in the station’s holding cells 11 years ago. The spokesperson for Ipid, Ndileka Cola, confirmed the directorate had recently received the victim’s case. “I can confirm that Ipid is investigating the assault allegations. The process is still in the beginning stages,” she said.

A community member wanted the Masoyi SAPS to be investigated and prosecuted for the injuries he had allegedly suffered in the holding cells on January 30, 2010, after he had been accused of rape. The now 27-year-old claimed he could not have children of his own due to the alleged injuries he had suffered on that day.

He alleged he was assaulted with the butt of a gun and had his genitals grabbed. He alleged the police only stopped assaulting him after seeing that he had soiled himself and was unconscious. He said he had begged to be taken to hospital, but nobody listened to his cries.
