Policewoman delivers gift of life
A female police officer helped a heavily pregnant woman to deliver a healthy baby on the street.
Const Nelisiwe Piyose, stationed at the Sakhile Police Station, went beyond the call of duty.
This was not only applauded by the provincial police commissioner, Lt Gen Semakaleng Manamela.

“The police are proving to be much more caring and efficient than the nurses, because believe me, our nurses would have turned this poor woman away from their clinics. This police officer deserves some stars. We need more such officers in our communities,” said Fanyana Sithole.
Piyose and Sgt Tebogo Nkomo, both stationed at Sakhile, were conducting their routine patrol duties when they noticed the pregnant woman sitting next to the road, in pain. Piyose reportedly requested her colleague to make a U-turn to check if the woman was fine.

They found her screaming due to her labour pains. Seeing that she was about to give birth, Piyosi, herself a mother of two, acted as midwife and helped the woman to deliver her boy. Just after the birth, Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived and took both mother and child to Sakhile Hospital for medical treatment.
“I want to commend the member for going the extra mile to help the woman to safely give birth to her baby. Piyose displayed the character of a true police officer; at times, members will be expected to carry out certain duties beyond their line of functions. She has done us proud,” said Manamela.
