Mayor pays homage to victims of Covid-19

The Ehlanzeni District Municipality (EDM) has paid homage to everyone who has died of Covid-19.

The district hosted a prayer session on Thursday for all victims within its jurisdiction and for its employees who had succumbed to this killer virus.

EDM’s executive mayor, Cllr Jesta Sidell, said all hope was gone and that they no longer have strength and courage, because they are faced with an invisible enemy.

“The only thing we can trust is God’s intervention during this time. We have lost some of our employees to Covid-19. As an institution, we continue to close doors because we keep on recording new cases.

Ehlanzeni District Municipality employees pray during the session.

This hampers our services delivery vehicle, because we have to close our offices every time there is a case. We are here today to seek divine intervention and to ask God to intervene. We are under attack; we have lost beautiful souls due to this pandemic. All hope is gone. We no longer have strength. We no longer have courage. We don’t feel safe. Sometimes we don’t even want to wake up in the morning to come to work, because of this invisible enemy,” said Sidell.

“The journey before us is long. This pandemic has brought about many challenges on top of those we already faced as a municipality. Many people have lost their jobs and the economy is stressed. We have taken a serious knock, but we need to start rebuilding. The only way we will win this war is by getting vaccinated. So let us spread the word and get everyone vaccinated,” said Sidell
