Msholozi community threatens to boycott elections

Residents are threatening to stay away from the upcoming local government elections if their grievances are not addressed by government.

A number of community members told minister of the national Department of Human Settlements, Mmameloko Kubhayi Ngubane, that they want better roads, water and RDP houses.

They voiced their dissatisfaction on Tuesday during Kubhayi Ngubane’s door-to-door campaign in the area.

“I really don’t see any reasons why I should even bother to go and vote because we still do not have services. The roads are bad here and there is no water at all,” said Mduduzi Mazibuko, a community member. Another community member, Maleveni Mashele, said.

“It would really please us if they can build better roads for us because as you can see, we do not have roads at all in the area. It becomes stressful for us taxi operators and other road users to be able to do our work with ease because of the road condition”.

Kubayi Ngubane was accompanied by the City of Mbombela executive mayor, Sibusiso Mathonsi, and ward 14 councillor candidate, Kenneth Mkhonto.

Kubayi Ngubane promised community members that their concerns will be addressed. Mathonsi pointed out that a road construction project was underway.
