A security guard took a bullet to the face in an incident involving five armed robbers. He had been collecting money from a filling station at Garelane in Bushbuckridge on August 26 when it happened.

A spokesperson for the provincial police, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, said the guard had entered the kiosk alone while the driver was waiting for him outside.

“While collecting money, five suspects entered the premises. One followed the guard into the kiosk pretending to be a customer. When he was about to exit with the money trunk, the suspect fired a shot. It hit him on the right-hand side of his face next to his eye,” Mohlala said.

The suspect grabbed the money trunk that had an undisclosed amount of cash in it. He was joined by the other suspects. They fled on foot in Shatale’s direction and disappeared.

The victim was immediately transported to hospital where he is receiving medical attention.

“The police have since launched an investigation and appeal to anyone who may know anything, to contact investigating officer Captain Evans Mashego on 082 319 9732 or the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.

Alternatively members of the public may send information via the My SAPS app. All received information will be treated confidentially and callers may opt to remain anonymous,” Mohlala said.

The provincial commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela, condemns ithe attack and wishes to bring the suspects to book.
