Mpumalanga Department of Health hosts workshop for steering committee

According to the DoH’s spokesperson, Dumisani Malamule, the workshop covered various topics, including the preparedness cycle and funding.

The Mpumalanga Department of Health (DoH) hosted an induction and orientation workshop for the Public Health Emergency Operations Centre’s steering committee at Southern Sun Mbombela on Wednesday and Thursday February 21 and 22.

The workshop was facilitated by the National Department of Health, the World Health Organisation, the National Institution for Communicable Diseases and the Johns Hopkins Programme for International Education in Gynaecology and Obstetrics.

The DoH’s spokesperson, Dumisani Malamule, said: “The two-day workshop touched base on the Introduction to International Health Regulations (2005), the general principles of emergency management, the emergency management programme development, the preparedness cycle and the funding and sustainability of the Public Health Emergency Operations Centre. It is a central location for co-ordinating operational information and resources for strategic management of public health emergencies and events. It provides communication and information tools. It is a platform for management of public health emergencies, leadership, decision making, management of resources and co-ordination.”
