Memorial Service of DD Mabuza to Take Place in Phola

The community will come together to celebrate the life of the former deputy president.

One of the memorial services for the late former deputy president, David Dabede Mabuza (64), will take place at Phola Sport Ground in Masoyi near Hazyview on Thursday, July 10.

Memorial services, scheduled to start at 12:00, will be held simultaneously in three regions of the province on Thursday, July 10.

The Phola venue is located in the heart of Mabuza’s hometown. Preparations are underway for the ceremony, which is expected to accommodate members of the community among others.

As former deputy president, the late Mabuza will be honoured with a Category 2 state funeral, which will be held at Hoërskool Bergvlam on Saturday, July 12. Mabuza’s family will hold a private burial service in Barberton.

President Cyril Ramaphosa declared a Category 2 state funeral for the late former deputy president. According to the State and Provincial Official Funeral Policy Manual of The Presidency, a Category 2 state funeral is reserved for a deputy president of the republic, an acting president, and a former deputy president.

President Ramaphosa also declared a period of national mourning from Monday, July 7, until the evening of Saturday, July 12. “During this period, the national flag must be flown at half-mast at all flag stations in the country,” a statement from The Presidency read.
