In photos: Night of revival brings back the gospel in KaNyamanzane

Sbu Thwala recorded his new album during the revival.

It was night of worship and praise, showcasing one the South Africa’s original gospel sounds, called itende. The piano sounds uniquely played in church gatherings in marquees, is what Sbu Thwala is set to bring back to the local gospel scope.

Thwala invited Mpumalanga News to the live recording of his second album, titled Usibonisile, at Word of Life Bible Church at Entokozweni, KaNyamazane, on Saturday August 20.

It was jam packed with music from Icilongo Levangeli performed by some of Thwala’s friends in music, Bonginkosi Ginindza, Precious Mahlake, Gabisile Malambe, Zanele Khoza and the Word of Life Bible Church choir.

He said that the aim of the new album is to uplift people. “This album is a revival of the spirit and the old gospel songs that we were taught at Sunday schools and grew up listening to,” Thwala said.

The pastor and minister said that he grew up singing at church, school and local small events. “A local pastor approached me and offered to sponsor me with a recording deal, which I took and managed to record my first album titled Mdumiseni Njalo in 2019. People loved that album and it motivated me to not give up on the calling that God bestowed upon me.

He was elated to announce that the new album will be released before the end of the year. “It has 10 amazing songs, including songs that most people grew up singing. I cannot wait for it to be released so that people can experience the wonderful worship and praise on the album,” he said.

Thwala appreciated the community of KaNyamazane, especially Entokozweni, for the support they showed by attending his live recording.

“Allowing the community to attend the recording for free was a way of showing my appreciation. I am nothing without my community’s support.”
