Ehlanzeni TVET College guides leaners on careers in KaMhlushwa

Ehlanzeni TVET College hosted an open day and over 1 000 learners attended the event.

The Ehlanzeni TVET College’s satellite, Mlumati, hosted well over 1 000 learners from various high schools within Nkomazi on Friday August 19. This formed part of the campus’ open day on which they helped learners make suitable career choices.

The Mlumati Campus’ acting manager, Sipho Khumalo, said many learners, especially those from deep rural areas, often end up registering for courses they do not understand and are not passionate about, due to a lack of information. “We have invited various schools to showcase our programmes we offer.

We want the learners to know exactly what we have to offer and we want to guide them to make sure they choose their career correctly. Today these learners were able to go into our workshops and see the various programmes we offer that they can choose from,” said Khumalo.

“Due to a lack of exposure and information, we have learners who come to register and enrol for courses they do not even know and understand, just because they want to study. This is where we come in as Mlumati Campus, by offering some solutions to help these learners make informed decisions about their careers.” Mlumati is the only big tertiary institution with a credible record within Nkomazi, and is as such flooded with people wanting to enrol.

“We offer quite a number of programmes, but we sometimes are limited due to a lack of infrastructure. We don’t have enough infrastructure to admit as many students as we would like to. We would love to expand and have more programmes,” said Khumalo.
