March to raise GBV awareness held in Pienaar

The organisers of a march said they want the community to be aware that there is help for victims and survivors.

As a way to raise awareness regarding gender-based violence (GBV), the Lusito Lukhona 16 Days Of Activism march was recently held in Pienaar. This was part of the annual 16 Days of Activism, which raises GBV awareness.

The event was hosted by Kedebone Mkhabela Foundation in collaboration with Khwezilokusa Foundation, which is owned by Khwezi Msibi.

According to Kedebone Mkhabela of the Kedebone Mkhabela Foundation, the Lusito Lukhona was started with the aim to raise awareness and to show the community the process to follow when seeking assistance.

“We want people to know that help is available when they need it. On the day of the march we shared information, and connected victims and survivors of GBV with organisations.”

The march ended in the community hall where most of the activities of the programme were done.

“We had speakers from the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, GRIP, community leaders, survivors, Vodacom representatives and the SAPS engaging with the community about challenges and where they can go about getting assistance.”

Mkhabela said they will host events in different parts of Mpumalanga in 2023.
