Man receives life sentence for murder of girlfriend in Standerton

Luthando Lungisa Zozo was found guilty of fatally shooting his girlfriend two years ago.

Luthando Lungisa Zozo (38) was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his girlfriend in Standerton in 2021.

A Mpumalanga police spokesperson, Brigadier Selvy Mohlala, said the Mpumalanga Division of the High Court sitting in Delmas found Zozo guilty of the premediated murder of Akhona Myolwa on June 15. The sentencing took place at the Division of the High Court sitting in Middelburg on Monday October 2.

“Zozo fired six bullets at Myolwa when they were in a car on the morning of October 5, 2021. Myolwa was hit by three of them. He then drove her to the hospital, but she was certified dead on arrival. The matter was reported to the police and an investigation was conducted, which led to Zozo’s arrest. He was denied bail when he appeared in court and kept in custody until his sentencing.”

He was further declared unfit to possess a firearm.
