Grandson appears in KaBokweni court for grandfather’s murder

It is alleged that the accused and the deceased had had an argument when the grandson became aggressive.

A 22-year-old man, Siyabonga Sanderson, appeared in the KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court for murder and defeating the ends of justice.

He was arrested for the murder of his grandfather, Albert Sanderson (75), whose body was exhumed in Swalala near White River on Thursday November 9.

On November 6, the accused and the deceased reportedly had an argument when the grandfather reprimanded his grandson about bringing different girlfriends to his house. The accused allegedly punched his grandfather, who fell on the ground. He allegedly buried him in a shallow grave at the back of the house.

During the accused’s appearance, he told the court that he would conduct his own defence and that he will not be bringing any application for bail. Should he decide otherwise, however, the state announced its intention to oppose it anyway, due to the seriousness of the offence.

The accused is remanded in custody, and the matter was postponed to January 30 for further investigation.
