KaNyamazane club DJ takes over the world one deck at a time
DJ Geenger has become a staple name in the music and entertainment industry in Mbombela, offering masterful DJing skills.
A deck master who has travelled a few countries in Africa to showcase his skills, DJ Geenger, real name Thabiso Mkala, is now taking over events in Mbombela and surrounds.
He brings his own unique touch as a DJ making people dance, especially at his event called Geenger & Friends. This Christmas Day will be extra special as he is hosting another edition of this get-together in White River.
DJ Geenger is also cooking up an EP with some sizzling amapiano songs to be released in 2025. Although he could not reveal much about this project, he hoped it would make a great contribution to the local amapiano music industry.

In 2023, he got the opportunity to travel to Tanzania for about four days to make people dance to his amapiano sets. “Tanzanian residents showed me so much love as a DJ. It was a great experience to play for a foreign crowd and it gave me hope and a hunger to grab more opportunities to travel the world to play music and make people dance,” Mkala said.
Besides Tanzania, he has played in Mozambique and eSwatini, and he is taking over the decks in South Africa, starting with Mpumalanga. “I hosted a few music events in clubs in Mbombela, such as the Corona Sunset Wednesday and the Geenger & Friends, where I invite people and my friends in music for a great lifestyle experience. These events have become a staple for me as DJ, because together with music lovers, we get to showcase our skills, which turns out to be a platform that uplifts us,” he said.

Mkala became a DJ in 2011 when he gained the skill of DJing on a laptop. “I started taking gigs at parties and clubs around KaNyamazane, DJing with my laptop. I managed to save money for some proper DJing equipment and became a resident DJ for 013 Lifestyle. I used to play every genre, including hip-hop, deep house and house, until amapiano music took over and I fell in love with it.”
He said being a DJ has opened many doors for him, and he hopes to travel the rest of the world to showcase his love of DJing and music.
