Mkobola court jails man for rape and robbery
The court declared the convict legally unfit to possess a firearm.
A man (32) was convicted of rape and common robbery and sentenced to 20 years’ and one year of imprisonment respectively. The sentences, which will run concurrently, were handed down by the Mkobola Regional Court on Thursday, June 19.

According to the provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane, the victim had declined the man’s romantic advances prior to the incident.
“On September 4, 2020, at about 17:30, the victim left home to visit Kwagga Mall and encountered a man known to her on her way back. The man expressed his romantic interest, and she declined. He then asked where she was headed, and she told him she was going to a certain tavern,” Ndubane said.

The victim recalled seeing the man at a different tavern on the same evening.
“At about 02:00 the following day, the man offered to walk the victim home, as her friends had left her behind. While walking through an open field, he grabbed her by the clothes and attacked her. When she fell to the ground, he removed her underwear and raped her before fleeing.”

Ndubane added that the man also stole R600 from her.
