Sand River Gates of Hope learners enjoy botanical garden

The main purpose of the school excursion was to encourage learners to love school.

The beautiful Lowveld National Botanical Garden (LNBG) was the venue for an unforgettable excursion for learners of the Gates of Hope School from Sand River near Hazyview.

The visit was yet another initiative aimed at fostering a love of learning and the school. For many of these learners the trip was a dream come true, offering an opportunity to experience and see animals they’d previously only seen on TV.

On arrival at the LNBG, the learners’ faces already lit up with anticipation.

The highlight for many was undoubtedly the close encounters with various animals. However, the landscaped part of this Lowveld gem is also a magnificent sight; characterised by impressive lawns and indigenous plants.

The excursion was not only about highlighting the beauty of nature, but was also an immersive experience bringing textbook lessons to life.

The educators noted a significant boost in engagement and curiosity among the learners. By connecting classroom learning with real-world experiences, the trip helped to solidify concepts and ignited a deeper interest in the natural world.

The Gates of Hope School believes such excursions are vital in building a positive relationship between learners and education.
