In a display of the true spirit of Mandela Day, the KMI Airport partnered with the Nsikazi Youth Foundation to give the centre a much-needed refurbishment on Friday, July 18.

The initiative, which is part of KMI Airport’s annual Mandela Day outreach campaign, saw students and facilitators of the foundation and the airport’s maintenance team working side by side to replace the roof, repaint the building and begin preparations for new fencing.

According to the airport’s head of community liaison, Mbongeni Mashigo, the non-profit organisation was selected based on its unwavering commitment to empowering young people in the region through education, mentorship and community development.
“Their work aligns perfectly with the values Madiba stood for – uplifting others and building a better future. The project aimed not only to improve the physical space, but also to inspire pride and hope among the youth who benefit from the centre’s programmes,” said Mashigo.
The day was capped off with warm and hearty meals – a sharing gesture that underscored the spirit of unity and gratitude.
“While the fencing is still to be erected, the transformation already speaks volumes.”
