Vuka Mfati empowers unemployed women and youth in Malalane

During this event, women were given business ideas and taught financial management skills.

The Vuka Mfati Organisation hosted its annual business event at the picturesque Paradise Creek on July 26.

Umfati lovuka ahlanganise, (a woman who wakes up and makes a plan), was this year’s theme. During the event, founder and director, Gcebile Mdluli, inspired and empowered unemployed women and the youth.

“You do not need millions to start a business; we promote as little as R500. A happy home is a home that has a woman who is selling something,” said Mdluli.

The event focused on unpacking practical business ideas and financial management skills tailored for individuals within limited resources, but big dreams. It also featured inspiring stories from women who started their businesses with the support of the organisation.

“Some of the women proudly own farms, salons and make-up studios, and my highlight is a woman who owns a mortuary,” she said.

The event was also about the Vuka Mfati recognition awards which celebrated hard-working women who show dedication in their businesses, and also acknowledged the vital role of the girl in entrepreneurship. “One of our sponsors gave our business girl child programme toiletries.”
