University of Mpumalanga hosts lecture on ethical and moral leadership
This annual event focused on ubuntu as the heart of ethical leadership.
The University of Mpumalanga (UMP), in partnership with the Archbishop Thabo Makgoba Development Trust, hosted the 10th Annual Lecture on Ethical and Moral Leadership on Wednesday, September 17.
This lecture was delivered by Prof Pumla Gobodo-Madikizela, research chair at Stellenbosch University.
The UMP’s outgoing vice chancellor, Prof Thoko Mayekiso, highlighted the importance of applying the lessons of ethical leadership beyond the lecture hall.

“The lessons shared here today must be applied in our roles as leaders, students, and members of society, so that we may improve our communities and contribute meaningfully to a just South Africa.”

Gobodo-Madikizela’s lecture placed ubuntu at the centre of ethical leadership, calling for ‘empathetic’ repair and the creation of spaces for healing across divides.

In his message, Archbishop Thabo Makgoba stressed the lecture’s role as a vital platform for reflection, dialogue, and transformation beyond academia.
