Lowveld Walkers wear pink for breast cancer awareness

Everyone is welcome to join the Lowveld Walkers' events as they are free.

The Lowveld Walkers took to the road dressed in pink and white for Breast Cancer Awareness Month on Saturday, October 25.

The walk began at Westvaal Volkswagen in Mbombela, circling back via the Lydenburg Road with distances of 5km, 10km, 15km, and 21km to choose from.

Various stakeholders joined the walk with a shared mission – to educate and raise awareness.
The day’s speaker, Tiny Wagner, matron at Rob Ferreira Hospital, presented an informative talk to educate the walkers on cancer.

Joseph Mashaba, the founder of Lowveld Walkers, said they wanted to raise awareness, and this year’s turnout was excellent – a clear improvement from last year. “In 2024 the walk was affected by the weather, it was raining on that day and some people decided not to attend. This year, the parking lot was completely full – we even had to spill over next door!”

Mashaba said the walkers thoroughly enjoyed the event and gained valuable insights.

“This event was an eye-opener for us. We learnt about the challenges faced by patients and how they can cope. One of our members shared his experience, giving us the inspiration and belief that it’s possible to overcome cancer.”
