Mpumalanga crowns young beauties

The pageant organiser said the selections were not only about beauty, but how each individual dedicated themselves to serve their communities.

The province’s young models showcased their talent during Miss Pre-teen Mpumalanga at Emnotweni Arena on Saturday, October 25.

Shalom Mnisi was crowned Junior Mini Miss Mpumalanga, Nokukhanya Mahlangu won Mini Miss Mpumalanga, and Sisanda Sambo took the title of Miss Teen Mpumalanga.

Pageant director Sibusiso Shabangu said the event is about more than just beauty, as participants are expected to serve their communities.

Shabangu added that there was a large number of entries this year, which were narrowed down to 19 finalists.

“We look at the kind of work that the children are doing in their communities, which they are expected to continue well after the final curtain drops,” she said.

The pageant featured contestants aged eight to 13, and winners received laptops, tablets, Bluetooth speakers, pamper vouchers and stationery hampers.

Shabangu said the prizes were carefully selected to benefit and empower participants both during their school years and after matric. The winners will reign for eight months, during which they will serve their communities and be encouraged to participate in creating awareness of the fight against gender-based violence.
