 Mpumalanga police arrest suspects for attempted murder and rape

The Mpumalanga police arrested numerous suspects for attempted murder, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, during the Operation Shanela.

The Mpumalanga SAPS arrested numerous suspects for attempted murder, rape, robbery, assault to cause grievous bodily harm, dealing in drugs, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, illicit mining, and contravention of immigration laws.

This came after the police and various law enforcement agencies conducted a high-density operation Shanela across Mpumalanga between May 7 and 10.

The police also conducted searches, patrols, roadblocks, vehicle checkpoints and tracing operations. Significant confiscations included firearms, ammunition, counterfeit goods, copper cables, cash and large quantities of drugs.

The Mpumalanga provincial commissioner, Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the members and stakeholders for their dedication in ensuring safer communities, and reaffirmed that the police will continue intensifying crime-fighting operations across the province.
