Tekwane North resident Mama Dorica Coleman turns 100
The centenarian reflects on a century of faith and offers timeless advice on respect and family values for the younger generation.
Generations of family and fellow worshippers gathered for a special church service on July 26 to celebrate the 100th birthday of Mama Dorica Dorcas Coleman.
Born in Sabie on July 24, 1926, Mama Dorica is the daughter of Simon and Julia Coleman. She is the second-born of 11 children, and six of her siblings are still living, making her centenary an occasion of great joy for the entire Coleman family.

Family settles in White River
The family was among the first to settle in the old Native Location of White River, commonly known as “Madala Skom”, when the area was established. Mama Dorica spent her childhood there, where she began a life rooted in faith, resilience and service.
A devoted member of the Methodist Church throughout her life, Mama Dorica’s faith has been the cornerstone of her journey. Over the years, she made her home in Jerusalem near Hazyview, later moved to Clau-Clau and eventually settled in Tekwane North, while her siblings established their homes in Ngodini, Mbombela and Nelsville.

Centenarian shares wisdom with youth
Reflecting on her century of life, Mama Dorica shared words that continue to inspire her family.
“God has carried me through every season of my life, and I thank Him for blessing me with a loving family and the strength to see this special day.”
She offered simple but heartfelt advice to the younger generation.
“Love one another, respect your elders, work hard and never lose your faith. Family is your greatest treasure.”
Mama Dorica’s faith, strength and unconditional love have remained a pillar of the Coleman family. Her legacy is measured not only by her longevity but by the lives she has nurtured and the values she has passed on.
