Barberton Mines donates sanitary pads and dustbins at Siftokotile High School
Volunteers clear litter along the Crocodile River as learners take part in environmental conservation workshops.
Barberton Mines partnered with the Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment Management Agency (IUCMA) to commemorate Mandela Day on July 30 at Siftokotile High School. The event reflected the spirit of service and community upliftment inspired by Nelson Mandela’s legacy.
As part of its contribution, Barberton Mines donated sanitary pads to female learners to support their health, dignity and continued education. The mine also donated three industrial dustbins to improve waste management and encourage a cleaner school environment.

Volunteers clear Crocodile River
The day’s activities included a clean-up campaign along the Crocodile River, where volunteers worked together to remove litter and promote environmental conservation. Learners also participated in an interactive educational session that highlighted the importance of protecting water resources, proper waste disposal and the role that every individual can play in preserving the environment for future generations.

Barberton Mines spokesperson Soya Magida said the company is committed to supporting initiatives that protect the environment, promote education and uplift local communities.
“The programme is not only great for the outlook of the Matsulu area but also for raising awareness about environmental issues and fostering a sense of community participation and pride,” he said.
