Editor’s weekly views affecting the public

It is so disturbing to discover that there are some parents who live in fear of their own children who are drug addicts.

The children demand money and food and often steal and sell their parents belongings to buy drugs. Where are communal structures to deal with these culprits?

During the days of street committees, we wouldn’t be witnessing such incidents, because those kangaroo courts meted out instant justice that, at the time, put society on the right path and you’re dealt with immediately through shambocking, most of the time.

I’ve heard, on numerous occasions, that the ANC and other parties have community structures. One wonders when such structures deal with such domestic problems because political parties have to offer all sorts of assistance to communities including domestic problems.

How on earth should we allow such behaviour to continue unabated? How are drug dealers allowed to continue their illegal trade, yet they are known in society, but never reported because they are feared members of the community?

Even if they are arrested, they get bail and continue with their trade.

It’s about time that community members unite in the fight against drugs in our communities and get rid of all the drug dealers.

These people are destroying our youth who have now become nothing but useless members of society, let alone in the future, they won’t make it as leaders of our nation. As we come to the close of Women’s Month, I appeal to men and women, and the youth to rally around each other and rid society of bad behaviour and also instil discipline.

If we are going to win this war, a unified effort is the way to go!
