I personally believe social media can be addictive. I think that when you feel a strong need to create a perception that you are living an opulent life and feel the desire to obsessively share personal information on social media so that they remain relevant and get more followers, then one should start to worry.

There is a big difference between addiction and overuse of social media. An addiction will cause the individual to lose out on other things on life. For example, spending so much time on social networks at work causes the individual to lose their job.

The overuse of social media simply means you person spend a lot of time on social networks but still are able to function adequately in life. Like any activity it has to be done in moderation.

Social media should not be replacing other forms of communication, such as face-to-face interactions, but it should make communicating with our friends who are far from us easily and cost effective.

Spending two hours a day on social media will do no harm to any individual.
