South Africa is currently experiencing one of the worst droughts in years. The country is already experiencing water shortages as a result. Rivers are low and dam levels are critically at their lowest.

This is due to low rainfall as a result of climate change. Groundwater levels are also dropping drastically which means boreholes are also drying up.

Everyone everywhere is affected by it. We need to be reminded that South Africa is one of the 30 driest countries in the world and the lack of rain simply means we are in for a difficult dry season.
This water shortage related to the drought has a negative effect on human lives, livestock and crops.

This drought calls for all of us to change our water-use behaviour to ensure that we make every drop count. And this behaviour change to use water sparingly and efficiently must start now! We need to implement self-imposed stringent water restrictions.

Communities and government need to work together to ensure that we conserve the little water we have as a country. Communities must fix and report all leaks to their municipalities, and the latter must immediately attend and fix all leaks as every drop counts.

Let us use water sparingly and efficiently to ensure that we conserve water in as far
as possible.
