Our view

But one of the factors that affect water-supply efficiency, is the illegal connections on bulk pipes by the very communities that lash out at government.

I wonder what goes on in the minds of some leaders when facing communities budding izimbizos.

The whole of last week members of the provincial legislature and executive committee were in the Nkomazi Local Municipality to face directly communities which were given an opportunity to raise their complaints and concerns.

The buzzword for most was the outcry over the water shortage.
There were accolades for some areas of delivery, but the honest fact is:

Why can’t the truth be told by the politicians that billions of rand have been spent on bulk water pipes, water-reticulation systems and reservoirs alike?

But one of the factors that affect water-supply efficiency, is the illegal connections on bulk pipes by the very communities that lash out at government.

Methinks the stance the government has taken not to take the communities that illegally draw water from bulk water pipes to task, is because they feel the need to treat them cautiously until after the elections.

Then they will begin calling a spade a spade.

Frankness and leaning on the truth develops a nation. If things will be left as it is, then the partnership that is purportedly being developed between government and the people, is nothing else but a marriage of convenience – there’s absolutely no love there, but each party is using the other for their own selfish gains.

There were also some comic moments when the Speaker chastised EFF leader, Collen Sedibe for not wearing a jacket during the sitting, yet she was also wearing a sleeveless top – both corrected their dress code, much to the amusement of the masses.

There were minor and serious tensions between the political parties represented in the legislature.

But my question is: Now that the legislature is being taken to the people, do the people ever go to the actual legislature on a normal basis?

They sure do need to be motivated and supported on that initiative, especially by constituency offices of all political parties in order to make it a reality that this is a government of the people by the people.
