David Mabuza an insightful leader
The qualities mentioned by the professor are what the ANC stands for and these are the qualities that Mr Mabuza embraces, hence he would with ease attract and lead the provincial ANC.
As I write this extract, I am heavily embroiled in a mental conflict about which sphere of his leadership must I concentrate on, since I am limited to space.
I will for the purposes of this extract, only focus on his political leadership, pre-Mangaung, notwithstanding his legendary Executive leadership qualities, as a Premier of the Mpumalanga Province.
The period pre-Mangaung was a period that tested, tried and insightful leaders, would either attract the germ of their kind or falter.
This was a period that could either break or rocked the political career of the elect.
Many will remember that the Mpumalanga Provincial ANC, led by Mr DD Mabuza, was amongst the first political structures that endorsed the current leadership of the national ruling party, pre-Mangaung.
The period pre-Mangaung either broke or propelled a germ leader from the rest. A former university professor and dean of a law faculty, Professor R. Sony, from the University of Zululand, once lectured that a leader is a person who leads with integrity, honesty and has the heart to listen and serve the interests of the people, at all times.
The qualities mentioned by the professor are what the ANC stands for and these are the qualities that Mr Mabuza embraces, hence he would with ease attract and lead the provincial ANC.
It was a calculated and a brave move by the premier to steer the provincial ANC branches to rally behind the top national leadership, pre-Mangaung. His bold stance, pre-Mangaung, has without doubt influenced other provinces that had not decided as to which leadership to support.
His stance took a leaf from the judicial precedence that when a higher court makes a judgment, all the lower courts are bound by it and other courts of similar instance are influenced by that judgment. He is a leader who led and showed direction at a trying time.
I am very convinced that not only the Mpumalanga leadership has taken a leaf from his leadership qualities, but the entire national leadership. South Africa needs selfless leaders of his caliber for the betterment of peoples’ lives.
