Wits release Dankwae, Madubanya

Bidvest Wits have confirmed the release of Kofi Dankwae after just one season with the club, as well as midfielder Letladi Madubanya.

Niger defender Dankwae arrived at the Johannesburg side the beginning of the season but struggled to secure a regular place in the starting XI.
Wits CEO Jose Ferreira explained to KickOff.com that the Niger international needed to be a regular if he was going to take up one of their foreign-player slots.

“We didn’t exercise the option because for a foreign player we felt he didn’t do enough in the team. We were happy about him as a player but the fact that he is a foreign player left us with no option but to not take up the option on his contract. A foreign player must always play. He is not coming back to us,” said Ferreira, who also confirmed the release of Madubanya, who leaves after a six-month spell.

“With Madubanya, his contract has expired and he has moved on and I believe he will get a good club to continue with his career. It was a case of us not taking up the option that we had on his contract based on the issue of the package that he had, otherwise there was nothing untoward.”
