Meet Rise FM’s Riimz

Music was my first paying job, it got me onto my first business-class flight, got me exposed and it opened doors for me into media back home.

This week we focus on Rise FM’s Riimz.

We hear that you are from Zimbabwe, whereabout exactly?

Yes, I was born in Harare, my family and ancestors are from the royal palace situated two hours south of Harare’s capital.

What motivates you?

Marcus Garvey’s literature. I am a strong believer that the continent’s greatness rests in unity. I might not live to see a borderless Africa, but I am motivated to contributing towards the fight.

Any special people in your life, besides your family – any kids?

Travelling from country to country and province to province with different radio stations has made it difficult to find love over the years.

However, I am seeing someone and only time will tell if she is the one. I do not have kids but hope to be a responsible father when the time is right.

We know you from TV, music and now radio – which one is your passion?

Music was my first paying job, it got me onto my first business-class flight, got me exposed and it opened doors for me into media back home.

I am an artist first, however, radio and TV were all strategically placed on my path to further my understanding of the marketing components to my music.

Tell us more about your Rise FM show and the different features you have.

I am on air weekdays from19:00 to 23:00. I start my show with the seven essential songs you need to know right now, before jumping into a feature called How to Sound Intelligent just before 20:00.

It then goes into an open-line conversation till 21:30 after which we then shoot into the best part of the show (in my opinion), The Big 5 Awards, where we reflect on and award certain events that happened on that day accordingly. All of course with Mpumalanga’s best music played throughout.

Do you have any other business interests in the pipeline?

I am all about empowerment and seek to engage with artists, actors, poets, aspiring presenters, creative writers, dancers, models and other media and entertainment practitioners in Mpumalanga through my media academy – a bridge to getting talent exposed to the people that matter.

Having assisted 2 000 plus young talent to date, I am excited to bring my celebrity mentorship to the province after my book launch.
But in the short term you can catch me throwing the most tropical party in the Lowveld at Cappello’s in Mbombela – themed “l’il Jamaica”. On Twitter
