High schools tourney remains on track

The first runners-up will receive R5 000 and the same benefits as the champions.

The fourth instalment of the high schools tournament which is sponsored by Dr JG Mavuso and the KaNyamazane Medical Centre, is going ahead as planned and without hindrances.

Speaking to Mpumalanga News after the opening games last Wednesday, the tourney’s organiser, Sam Mnisi of the Msogwaba Sport Development, said the games were proceeding as planned.

He said he anticipated that the final would be staged on March 7.

“Everything is going according to schedule and we are very pleased with the manner this tourney has
been progressing so far.
“The sponsors and the participating schools are also happy.
“I am certain that we will finish on time and without any delays or disturbances,” said Mnisi.

He added that the level of football displayed by participating schools this year has been marvellous and he looked forward to an entertaining final at the KaBokweni Stadium.

“The level of football at school level is rapidly growing and our wish as organisers and sponsors of these tournament, is for parents to realise their children’s potential and support them at all times.
“We have witnessed extreme talent in this competition.
“It pains us to learn that some of these talented young stars aren’t allowed to play outside school level.
“We also wish that our soccer teams participating in the country’s well-structured leagues would one day come and see these children play and perhaps give them a chance to take their career to another level,” added Mnisi.

This year’s tournament will see the champions taking home R10 000 in cash, a full soccer kit, branded cooler box for their school, a floating trophy and gold medals.
