Matsulu Cricket Club bats its way into the community

The organisation will provide to establish a top-class facility, that will serve the community and ultimately become the best.

The Matsulu Cricket Club recently launched their sports organisation at Funindlela Primary School. The club was founded and inspired by the Asidlaleni Sonke Schools Cricket Initiative.

The purpose of the club is to create a setting the organisation will provide to establish a top-class facility, that will serve the community and ultimately become the best. Through hard work and determination, founder William Ndwandwe has continued to support and increase participation in local circuit primary schools since 2013.

“The need to touch more lives and introduce a less accessible sporting code to the greater community, was identified and through collaboration with the Citizenry Development Foundation headed by Jones Hlatshwayo, the Matsulu Cricket Club was established,” said Ndwandwe.

He added that with sports in communities, both the young and old can gain valuable life skills, such as critical thinking, empathy, problem-solving and coping with stress. Various business people, Department of Culture, Sports and Recreation officials, parents and children who participated in the Asidlaleni Sonke Schools Cricket Initiative attended along with residents who were interested in joining the club. Former finance, economic development and tourism MEC, Sikhumbuzo Eric Kholwane, delivered the keynote address. A mini exhibition game was held before the ceremony in which he also participated.
