Electricity restored in some parts of West Acres, but other areas of Mbombela remain in the dark

Some parts of Mbombela have been left without electricity for more than two days.

Repair work is continuing after being held up by the recent rain, in an effort to restore electricity to some areas that were affected since Friday May 5, the City of Mbombela’s spokesperson, Joseph Ngala, said.

Electricity was restored in some parts of West Acres last night, May 7, but some streets are still off. Technicians are currently working to switch on the remaining areas in some parts of Valencia, Nelsville and KaMagugu.

“There are still some remaining cable faults that our officials are working on, however, it’s not easy to estimate restoration time at the moment,” he said.

Ngala also said the power outages affecting these areas were the result of an electrical transformer being struck by lightning on Friday, causing disruptions in the areas. However, a new transformer was installed on Saturday.

The electricity disruption in West Acres was due to electricity overloading, he said.
