VIDEO: M4 Ruth First Highway set to reopen this week
The stretch between uMhlanga and Sibaya has been closed for eight months due to a partial road collapse last year.
A large section of the M4 Ruth First Highway is set to reopen this week after being closed for the last eight months.
The highway has been out of commission since last year when a partial road collapse caused the closure of the route between uMhlanga and Sibaya.
Local company, Devru Construction, who had been tasked to carry out the work, are due to hand over the site to the eThekwini Municipality this week with the full opening expected to take place on Thursday or Friday morning.
All that remains is painting on the road markings and erecting road signs.
Ward councillor, Nicole Bollman also urged residents to respect the construction site until the highway was officially reopened.
“The manager of the construction site has seen people driving north from the Sibaya entrance in the last few days. I must stress to residents that from the uMhlanga off-ramp to the construction site entrance, and from Sibaya traffic circle going south, those sections are closed off to the public. It creates a dangerous situation as construction vehicles and workers are using the route from the early morning. So I urge residents to respect the construction site at all times,” she said.
