Detective’s wife shot dead by police after mistaken for hijacker
A Sandton police officer’s wife has been shot and killed yesterday in Tembisa, on the East Rand after being mistaken for a hijacker.
Lieutenant Colonel Andre de Klerk from Sandton police said the sergeant’s brother-in-law was also shot but he was not fatally injured, Sandton Chronicle reported.
He said the sergeant’s wife was shot inside the vehicle by Edenvale reservists.
De Klerk added the deceased`s vehicle looked similar to a hijacked vehicle the police had been looking for and the registration number was almost identical to that of the hijacked vehicle. The vehicle registration number started the same.
This is a developing story. More to come.
In a separate incident, a house robber was shot dead by police, while the other was arrested at a house in Terenure, Kempton Park, in Gauteng, early this year..
A bystander was allegedly wounded in the leg and is being treated by Emer-G-Med paramedics on the scene.
It is believed police had been looking a stolen vehicle linked to various crimes.
The suspect who was shot died behind the steering wheel of the alleged stolen car.
