Defence unhappy with media coverage of Tshego’s murder trial
It was agreed that the proceeding could be filmed without showing the accused and the families in attendance.
Muzikayise Malephane, the man accused of the brutal murder of Tshegofatso Pule, made his first appearance in the South Gauteng High Court after his case was moved from the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court for trial.
Malebane appeared as part of a pre-trial conference on Tuesday, 15 September. The purpose of the conference was to check the readiness of the State and the Defence to proceed with the trial.
The Defence, however, seemed displeased about the media presence as they felt it intimidated and infringed on the accused’s right to privacy, but it was agreed that the proceeding could be filmed without showing the accused and the families in attendance.
The matter was then postponed to 20 October for the pre-trial hearing.
Earlier this year Tshego’s body, with stab wounds, was found hanging from a tree in Durban Deep, Roodepoort after she had been reported missing a few days earlier.
This is a developing story.
