Covid-19: Gauteng remains the province with the highest number of active cases

Recoveries now stand at 611 044, translating to a recovery rate of 90%

Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize reported that there were 49 880 active cases of Covid-19 in the country on 2 October.

A further 43 Covid-19 related deaths were also recorded on 2 October, bringing the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 16 909. Nine of the deaths recorded on 2 October were from the Free State, eight in Gauteng, eight in KwaZulu-Natal, eight in the Western Cape, seven in the Northern Cape and three in the Eastern Cape.

The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases to date stands at 677 833, with Gauteng leading as the province with the largest cumulative total of cases since the start of the pandemic (220 365; 32.5 per cent) followed by KwaZulu-Natal with 17.6 per cent (119 346) and the Western Cape with 16.4 per cent (111 060).

Recoveries now stand at 611 044, translating to a recovery rate of 90 per cent. On 2 October, Gauteng remained the province with the highest number of active cases (19 467) followed by the Free State (13 492) and KwaZulu-Natal (5 941).

A further 20 660 new tests were recorded on 2 Oct, bringing the total number of tests conducted at public and private facilities to date to 4 229 709.
