Vereeniging scrapyard shutdown after retrieval of stolen parts and cars
The Acting Gauteng Provincial Commissioner of the police, Major General Tommy Mthombeni, recently closed down one of the biggest scrapyards in the town of Vereeniging.
Mthombeni showed no mercy when he instructed his team to lock the gates of the scrapyard in Ext 1 Eishenhaur Street.
After going through searching the scrapyard, Mthombeni and his team realised that almost all of the vehicles and the parts that were in the yard were not registered, meaning that the owner, who cannot be named as he had not pleaded in court, is faced with a charge of dealing with possible stolen items and vehicles.
Mthombeni said the parts and vehicles were found to have been stolen. “This was a good success. A fine of R2 500 was also issued before the arrest for failure to supply or produce proper documents.
Some of the stolen items were said to be from Lenasia, Pretoria and Vanderbijlpark areas.
“It is alleged that apparently the suspect operates with other various scrapyard in the area, law enforcement agencies and police received a tip-off about this mondus operandi,” said police.
