Tshwane metro police warn of sharp-spikes-in-the-road crimes on highways
The Tshwane metro police have warned motorists to be vigilant after metal spikes were discovered on the N4 highway near the Diamond Hill toll plaza.
During patrol duty along the N4 highway on Friday, the police found metal spikes placed on the road.
“These spikes are usually placed by criminals to force vehicles to stop after driving over the spikes,” a metro police statement said.
“The TMPD would like to warn motorists to be extremely vigilant, especially when driving at night.”
The department vowed to continue to prioritise patrols along such roads.
“Stopping motorists are then attacked by these perpetrators, especially at night.
“Targeted areas are mostly highways and quiet roads.”
Several incidents have been reported in the past few months of motorists stopping to inspect the damage to the wheels and then being attacked.
In August last year, two incidents were reported on the N4 and R104 roads, while spikes were also found on the N4 before the Rayton/Cullinan off-ramp.
No arrests have been made but anyone with information regarding this kind of crime may contact the TMPD at 012-358-7095/7096.
