WATCH: Two motorists rescue serval from certain death in Mpumalanga
A truck driver and employee from Alzu outside Middelburg, Mpumalanga combined efforts to rescue a serval on Thursday morning.
At first, motorists grew frustrated with the truck driver, only known as Bheki, after he parked his truck partially blocking traffic on the N11 (Loskop road)
Their frustration soon turned into endearment when they realised that the driver had done so to save the life of an injured serval.
The serval was likely struck by a vehicle previously and had blood on its nose.
Two employees from Alzu, who were en route to Groblersdal, Kelly Cornelius and Zak van Aswegen, also stopped at the scene.
Zak carefully wrapped the serval in his jacket and took it to a local veterinarian in Groblersdal.
He said that the cat, which remained docile throughout the trip, soon started fussing when he tried to remove it from his vehicle, an indication that it still had a lot of fight left him.
He commended the truck driver, Bheki, saying that he was worthy of praise for his efforts in rescuing the injured serval.
An update from the vet on the serval’s recovery is still being waited on.
