Woman raped at gunpoint in Randfontein after accepting lift to work

An identikit of a man, believed to be involved in the rape of a woman near the Greenhills Cemetery, have been released by police.

The West Rand police have launched a manhunt for a suspect who offered a woman a lift to work before raping her at gunpoint. They have appealed to the community to assist with information.

West Rand district police spokesperson, Sergeant Kgomotso Mogwere, explains that the victim alleged that she was on her way to work at about 17:00 on Sunday, March 6 when she was raped.

She told police that a maroon bakkie stopped next to her on the Randfontein road in Tarlton. She did not notice the number plate.

The driver offered her a lift and promised to drop her off at her workplace.

However, he did not do as promised and instead sped off and parked next to a bush before the Greenhills Cemetery where he held her at gunpoint and raped her.

An identikit of the suspect has since been compiled. Mogwere asked anyone with information that could help the police to contact them.

Contact the Tarlton Police on 011 952 0012 or the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit investigating officer, Constable Letshoene on 082 778 9049. Alternatively contact the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or use the SMS number 32211.
