Truck crashes into dam after driver falls asleep behind the steering wheel

Residents in the area were left without power after the truck, among others, damaged a power line after leaving the road.

A truck driver escaped with no injuries after veering off the R545 road and into a dam on a farm between Bethal and Kriel on Friday afternoon.

The truck went off the road for about 500m before coming to a stop in a dam.

According to the truck driver, he had fallen asleep and when he woke, he found himself and the truck in water.

The truck crashed through several fences and an Eskom power line before ending up in the water.

Farms in the Baanbreker area between Bethal and Secunda will be without electricity until the damage to the Eskom line has been repaired.
