Bail denied for son-in-law and hitman suspected of murdering Tshwane firefighter
The 59-year-old firefighter was shot several times in her face and head and her body was found about 100m from the station in February of this year.
Two men were denied bail by the Bronkhorstspruit magistrate’s court on Friday, May 27 after they were arrested for the suspected murder of a 59-year-old Tshwane firefighter.
Warrant Officer Bonnie Nxumalo said their case was postponed to June 15.
The suspects are an estranged son-in-law of the victim, Frans Letshoalo (51), who is a taxi boss and the alleged hitman, Sizwe Nhlapho (28).
They were arrested by Hawks teams at their places of residence in Krugersdorp and Soweto.
Letshoalo and Nhlapho were being investigated by the Hawks’ serious organised crime investigation after Senile Annah Mnguni (59) was gunned down outside her workplace around 20:10 on February 16.
Mnguni was found shot several times, dressed in her Tshwane fire department uniform on Kommando Street.
It is alleged that between four and five gunshots were heard, with injuries sustained to the head.
The motive for the killing was still being investigated.
Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Charles Mabaso said the department was shocked by the murder.
According to fellow firefighters, Mnguni went out to meet an unknown person she had just spoken to on the phone.
“They then heard gunshots only moments after she had left the station.”
Mabaso said the colleagues went outside to look for her and her body was found about 100m from the station.
“A paramedic certified her dead on the scene.”
